How to Share a File Securely (In a Project)
If a project is already set up with a client, you can share a document through that same project rather than creating a separate one-off share. This keeps everything the client needs in one familiar place.
📂 Using "Share Files" Inside the Project
- Go into the project and click New.
- From the drop-down, click on Share files.
- This will create a task titled New Shared File Task. Click the edit pencil to set a new Task name, Due Date, Category, and description.
- Drag in the file you want to share or click to upload.
- You might also want to prompt the client to download the file. At this point, the client can see it on their side.

🔔 Next Steps
The client isn't automatically pinged when you share a file this way — that's intentional, so you stay in control of communication.
This is why the button will start prompting for attention: it's a reminder that you still need to notify the client yourself.
📧 Sending the Update
-
When you've finished making your updates, click Update Clients.

Editing the Message
- After clicking Update Clients, the email message window will open.
- When the window opens, you can add or remove Project members from the messaging.
- We provide a default update email. If there is a saved template you would prefer to use, click the Subject to change it!
- If you develop an email you would like to use later, check the box to save it as a template.
- Click Insert Update Summary to add a list of updates to the email based on the changes made at the cursor location.
- If the email doesn't already have a link to the Project, click → Insert Link Button to add it!
- Make any changes to the body of the email that you would like!
- You can click Share Draft to save the current version of the message. It will then be available for all firm users. Click Discard Draft to remove the saved copy from the local machine or the firm's saved list, reverting it to the base default message.
- Once you have made all changes, click Send to deliver it to all contacts in the To field!
