🔒 Choose your authentication level
Before sending, select an authentication method in Require Authentication to eSign.
📝 Note: If you do not see these options, reach out to Support to enable them.
- None – no additional verification required
- One-Time Passcode (OTP) – sends a text message code to the signer's email.
- Knowledge-Based Authentication (KBA) – the signer answers questions based on their credit report; meets IRS requirements for forms like 8879s
- Both OTP and KBA – maximum security, though this may create a more difficult experience for clients

📝 Note: KBA is recommended only when required (e.g., IRS 8879s), as answering credit-history questions can be challenging for clients.
📧 Save and send
You have two options:
- Save – Saves the request so you can compose and manually send a custom email.
- Save and Send – Immediately sends an automated email to the recipient(s)

☝️ Tip: If you chose Save, navigate into the newly created project and click the green Send to Client button to compose your email. Email templates can be used here to streamline your message.
Method 2: Adding an E-Signature to an Existing Project
Use this method when you're already communicating with a client in a project and want to keep everything in one place.
-
Open the existing project.
-
Click New to open the drop-down.
-
Click Request E-Signature. This will open the request. You can start at Step 3 in the steps above to build the document.
📝 Note: The signature request will be added directly to the existing project rather than creating a new one, keeping your communication organized for both you and your client.

Tracking E-Signatures
You can monitor the status of all e-signature requests from the E-Signatures tab. Use filters to track specific document types, such as 8879s that still need to be collected or filed.
- Filter by eSign or Engagement Letters to narrow down the report.
- Click the Statuses drop-down to filter by a specific status.
- Filter by Draft to see requests that have not been sent.
- Filter by Sent to see requests that are still pending
- Filter by Completed to see requests that have been signed
- Filter by Filed to see items the firm has marked as Filed.
- After an e-Signature request has been signed by all parties, the status changes to Completed, and the firm can click the status drop-down to change it to Filed as needed.
- Filter by Expired to see inactive e-Signature requests.
- Filter by Error to see any items that did not complete due to an error.
☝️ Tip: You can also track individual requests by opening the relevant project directly.

Beyond the filter, you can see the results below:
- The E-Signature Request Name field specifies the name of the document being sent for signature.
- If the request was tied to a Project, it will display here. You can click the link to go directly to the Project.
- The Status column will display the current step the document is in.
- Draft is awaiting completion from the firm.
- Sent means that it has been delivered to the client.
- Completed means that it is has been signed by all parties.
- Filed is a manual status placed on the document after it has been completed, showing that the firm has finished with the document.
- Expired means that the document is no longer available for the client to sign and, if needed, must be resent.
- Error means that there was an issue processing the document and it will need to be uploaded and processed again. If an issue persists, please contact Support.
- The Signatures column outlines how many signers have completed their signatures/how many signers there are total on the document. This would look like 2/2 for a completed document, 1/2 for a partially signed one, and 0/2 if no action has been taken. A progress bar on the right shows the total completion of the signature request.
- You can review the activity on the document as well via Last Updated to see when the last action was taken on the request.
- You can click the 🗑️Delete button to remove a signature document. If it is complete, you can click the Archive button to move the signature document to the Archive so it no longer appears on the active list.
