Reviewing and Downloading Client Uploads
Once a client has uploaded documents into a project, here's how to find them, review them, and prepare your work papers.
📯 How You're Notified of New Uploads
Truss doesn't send an individual email notification for every upload to a project. Instead, you'll receive a daily digest email each morning summarizing all uploads from the previous 24 hours.
If you want to check on uploads in real time, you can find them in two places within Truss:
- Your inbox – Any newly uploaded file is tagged as New and will appear here automatically.
- The project itself – The project will display a count of new uploads, which you can click into directly.
Notifications
1. Click the bell to open your notifications and locate any dropped-off files.
2. Verify the incoming email of the files. If a file is submitted via an email not attached to a Contact, it will prompt you to add them.
3. You can click Download All to quickly gather the uploaded files.
4. You can Forward the notification and the files to another user.
5. Click to Mark all as read within the group of uploads.
6. This option marks all files as read and reviewed.
7. Review Drop Off Files will open a dialogue for the uploaded files where you can rename the documents, download individual files, and move files to relevant projects.
8. You can mark uploaded items as Read.

Projects
1. With a project open, locate an upload with New.
2. If an upload has an issue, we will outline it as a yellow warning triangle.
E - Encrypted, no password
B - Blurry
D - Duplicate
Y - Wrong Tax Year
T - Wrong EIN/SSN
3. Click the Download icon to directly download the new upload.
4. Click Edit File Name to manually rewrite the name of the file.
5. Use Split Document if a file contains multiple parts that could be attached to other Tasks.
6. Click Delete to remove the upload.

🔎 Reviewing Uploaded Documents
Once inside the project, enter Review Mode to go through what the client submitted. This is typically the first step — confirming you received everything you needed in the right format and for the correct tax year.
While in Review Mode, you can:
- Flip through documents to verify their contents (Truss also automatically runs AI checks on uploads).
- Rename a document using the rename button if the file needs a cleaner label.
- Mark a document as Approved once it looks correct.

📥 If You Need More From the Client
If something is missing or you need additional items after reviewing, you can return to the Project and:
- Add new document request items to the checklist
- Add tasks for the client to complete
The client will be notified through the normal request flow!
