ποΈ Projects & Tasks
Interactive Task Description Checklists
Task descriptions can now include real checklists β just type a checkbox marker [], and it turns into a clickable item. Both firm users and clients can check items off directly from the task, and Truss won't let you accidentally overwrite someone else's change.

Multiple Internal Notes with History
Projects can now hold multiple internal notes instead of just one, with a full history of edits and deletions. Task notes now live alongside comments in the task panel, and notes stay firm-only β clients never see them.
π€ Max AI
Max AI File Workflows and Document Viewing
You can now attach documents, spreadsheets, CSVs, and images directly to Max AI conversations, and Max AI can read them and hand back edited or generated files. You can also edit spreadsheets in-app with full revision history, and project previews now use an updated document viewer.

Voice Dictation in Max AI
You can now dictate your prompts to Max AI instead of typing them, using the new microphone button or a keyboard shortcut. Truss shows a live waveform while you talk and drops the transcription into the message box for you to review before sending.

π Templates
Update Template Years Feature
Firms can now go to Templates β Update Template Years to review and selectively update checklists, engagement letters, emails, worksheets, and more from 2025 to 2026 (or 2024 to 2025). You can see exactly what's changing before applying anything, and only your templates are affected β existing projects and sent communications stay untouched.

πΌ Forms & Returns
Bulk IRS Authorization Forms (8821/2848) *Available on Advisory Tier
You can now prepare and send IRS Forms 8821 and 2848 in bulk, with Truss generating one form per taxpayer and tracking everything in a new IRS Connect β Authorizations area. View more information here: IRS Connect Overview
CCH & Lacerte Form 1041 and Form 709 Data File Support
Truss can now process fiduciary (Form 1041) and gift (Form 709) tax returns, in addition to individual returns. These returns are automatically matched to the right client and entity, and gift return questionnaires correctly exclude deleted gifts and identify gifts made by a spouse.

π Truss Prep
Task Comments in Magnetic Submissions
When submitting to Magnetic, you can now choose to include a project's task comments as a PDF alongside the other documents. It's included by default, but you can uncheck it if you'd rather leave comments out.
Choose Which Documents Are Sent to Truss Prep
When creating a prep request through Filed, Byron, OCR Prep, or Magnetic, you can now review and choose exactly which project files get sent, instead of sending everything by default. Your customized selections are saved if you need to come back to a draft later.
ποΈ Organizers
Tax Software Data-File Handling and Review Improvements
The organizer upload area now accepts only PDFs, so tax software data files won't get mixed in by mistakeβthey have their own separate upload flow.

π₯ Contacts & Entities
Contacts Filterable by Related Entity Details
You can now filter Contacts by details from a related entity, like its tags or entity type, making it easy to build lists such as everyone connected to a particular nonprofit. These filters work alongside your existing contact filters and respect normal firm access rules.

Client ID Search in New Project Flow
When starting a new project, you can now search for a client by their full or partial Client ID, not just by name. An exact match will select that client instead of offering to create a duplicate.

ποΈ Projects & Tasks
E-Signature Download Tracking and New Template Permissions
Truss now records when a client downloads a completed e-signature document, including their name and email, alongside existing sent/viewed/signed/completed/expired events in the project activity feed. Completed e-signature emails now link to the signed document when the firm's settings allow it.
Admins also gained two new permission controls restricting who can manage communication templates (email, engagement letter, e-signature) and in-app templates (checklists, worksheets, forms, and similar), with restricted users seeing template management options hidden or disabled.
Project Activity History Filtering
The Project Activity History panel can now be filtered by one or more specific activity types, such as client visits, tasks and files, reminders, e-signatures, project changes, and internal notes, with types grouped, searchable, and limited to what's relevant to the current project. A new date-range filter supports a From date, a To date, or both, and you can easily clear active filters. The panel layout and pagination were also refreshed for easier navigation.

Reorganized "+ New" Task Menu
The "+ New" task menu on project pages is now organized into clear categories like Tasks, Forms & Worksheets, Signatures, and Payments, with a search field to quickly find what you need. No options were removed β this just makes them easier to find.

π Assembly
Locality Dropdown Ordering
Locality dropdowns used when creating assembly tasks and documents now list Federal and All first, followed by states and municipalities in alphabetical order, for quicker, more consistent selection.

πͺ· User Interface and User Experience (UI & UX)
More Snooze Options for Clients
The task-card snooze bell and the "Send project to Firm" review window now share the same snooze menu, letting clients choose 1 week, 2 weeks, 1 month, 2 months, or 3 months, or pick a custom date up to 12 months out. For recognized tax-return projects, Truss suggests a date one month before the next filing or extension deadline; other projects show a 6-month option instead. The menu and review window have also been improved for phone screens.

Client Tools UI Consistency
Forms, File Shares, Scheduled Messages, and Scanned PDF tools now share a more consistent, easier-to-navigate layout, making it simpler to browse, search, and review client-facing items. The underlying workflows haven't changed β just how they look and feel.

Status Filter on Returns Page
You can now filter the Returns page by status β Processing, Ready to Send, Done, Error, or All β and that filter stays applied as you search, change page size, or select returns for bulk actions.

π£οΈ Meeting Intelligence
Meeting Intelligence Expansion *Available on Advisory Tier
Meeting Intelligence now generates an AI summary of key points, decisions, and next steps for completed meetings, and can suggest follow-up tasks or notes for you to review before adding them. You can also get a summary email after meetings, and Max can now reference your meeting summaries and transcripts when answering questions.
πͺ² Bug Fixes

πͺ· User Interface and User Experience (UI & UX)
Internal Notes Button Visibility
Fixed an issue where the Internal Notes button looked the same whether or not a project had notes, making them easy to miss. Projects with notes now show a clearly highlighted button with a count that updates immediately when notes are added or removed.
Download Your Tax Return Banner Access for Unassigned Clients
Fixed an issue where some clients on a joint return (often the second spouse) got a "not found" error when trying to download their tax return. Any client associated with the project can now use the download banner, even if they weren't specifically assigned to that task.
Orphaned Outline Rows in Combined PDFs
Fixed an issue where a failed PDF merge could leave behind broken bookmark entries, and where an unreadable file could be silently left out of a combined PDF. Truss now stops the merge and shows a clear error naming the problem file instead.
Drop-off Project Picker
Fixed an issue where long project names were cut off in the drop-off project picker, making similarly named projects hard to tell apart. Project names can now wrap onto two lines, and hovering over an option reveals the full name.
Sign-In Redirect Could Land Users on the Wrong Page
When a user's session expired or they needed to sign in again, background activity like Turbo updates, embedded frames, document polling, or tracking requests could overwrite the page Truss intended to return them to, sometimes landing users on a partial panel or technical response. Truss now distinguishes normal page visits from background requests and validates the saved return destination after sign-in, rejecting anything malformed or unsafe. Users should now reliably land back on the page they were viewing, including its filters and tabs, or on their signed-in home page if the saved destination isn't valid.
Advanced Filters Could Silently Drop Conditions
When multiple Advanced Filters were combined with AND and targeted the same field (such as two Entity Tag or Owner filters), Truss could silently ignore one of the conditions and return extra, incorrect results across Projects, Contacts, Entities, and Questionnaire Uploads. Truss now retains and applies every AND condition regardless of filter order, and OR filters combine results without duplicates. Some searches may now return fewer results since records that don't satisfy every selected condition are correctly excluded.
Deactivated Users in Teammate Picker
Fixed an issue where deactivated firm users could still show up in the teammate picker for sharing drafts or forwarding notifications. Only active users now appear, and deactivated teammates can no longer be notified.
ποΈ IRS Connect
IRS Authorization Security & Workflow Fixes
Fixed several issues with IRS authorization forms, including a gap that let photo-ID verification be skipped and incomplete generated PDFs. IRS authorizations now reliably verify identity, respect client permissions, and produce complete, submission-ready forms.
TaxNow Transcript Parsing
Fixed an issue where a recent formatting change from TaxNow caused Truss to misread some form names β especially K-1s β and fail to split documents correctly. TaxNow transcripts should now import and split properly again.
TaxNow Transcript Syncs
Fixed an issue where nightly TaxNow sync notifications could create duplicate transcript versions and unnecessary follow-up activity, even when nothing on the transcript had actually changed. Truss now recognizes when there's no real change and skips the unneeded update.
ποΈ Projects & Tasks
Worksheet XLSX Generation Failures
Fixed an issue where a worksheet's XLSX file could sometimes fail to generate after a client submitted it, or end up attached to the wrong client. Firm users can now also manually regenerate a worksheet's XLSX file if needed.
Internal Notes Missing from Checklist PDFs
Fixed an issue where checklist PDFs downloaded by firm users could leave out internal notes, so firm-side downloads were missing context. Authorized firm downloads now consistently include internal notes; client downloads are unaffected.
Advanced Filters on Projects Page
Applying Advanced Filters on the Projects page now keeps you on whichever view (Active or Archived) you were already in, instead of bouncing you back to Active Projects. Your search, filters, sorting, and page size are also preserved when you apply new filters.
Review Mode PDF Viewer Sizing
Fixed an issue where opening a PDF in Review Mode from a project page could make the viewer extend past the bottom of the screen, hiding the page navigation controls. The viewer now automatically resizes to fit the available space, so the navigation controls stay visible.
π Truss Prep
Filed Upload Address Handling
Fixed an issue where an incomplete upload address from Filed could prevent files from uploading successfully. Uploads to Filed, including through Zapier, should now go through reliably.
ZIP File Submissions
Fixed an issue where ZIP files submitted to Filed could be rejected, causing documents inside them to be skipped during data entry. Truss now opens each ZIP and sends every document inside individually, and if any file fails to upload, the process stops instead of continuing with documents missing.
Filed v3 Uploads
Fixed an issue where Filed v3 requests asked users to upload files like a prior-year tax return, even though Filed v3 already pulls that client data directly from the firm's connected tax software. Filed v3 requests no longer require or carry along unnecessary file uploads.
π¬ Reminders, Notifications, & Inbox
Duplicate and Unnecessary Reassignment Notifications
Reassigning a project to yourself could incorrectly trigger an email and in-app notification, and reassigning between the same people multiple times could pile up duplicate alerts. Truss no longer sends a reassignment notification when the person making the change is also the new owner, and now checks which notifications the new owner already has before transferring unread ones. Project owners should now get one relevant copy of each notification without duplicates.
π§ Email & Messaging
Email Template Picker Issues in Bulk Scheduling
In the Contacts bulk Schedule Message form, the Insert Email Template picker could appear behind the message editor and be unclickable, and selecting a template used the template's name as the subject instead of its saved subject line. The picker now sits in its own row and stays in front when opened, is shown only for emails (not SMS), and fills an empty subject with the template's saved subject line without overwriting one the user already entered.
Draft Emails Imported During Ingestion
Fixed an issue where Truss could import unsent draft emails from connected Gmail and Outlook accounts. Drafts now stay in your email account and are no longer pulled into Truss.
π Assembly
Assembly Upload Bookmark Misclassification
Fixed an issue where PDFs with overlapping bookmarks could cause pages to be filed under the wrong section during Assembly Upload processing β for example, a state form showing up as a Federal attachment.
Entity Link Not Recognized During Assembly Project Setup
Fixed an issue where selecting an entity while creating an Assembly project didn't always carry through correctly, which could cause direct-deposit details, payment voucher filenames, or summary emails to be missing entity information.
Lacerte K-1/K-3 Package Grouping
Fixed an issue where Lacerte K-1 packages with Schedule K-3 pages could miscount recipients and drop state K-1 pages (like Colorado) from the final package. K-3 pages now match the correct K-1 using the printed partner or shareholder number.
Drake K-1 Package Assembly Accuracy
Drake K-1 packages now match state K-1 pages to the correct shareholder using the name printed on the form, rather than just page counts, so packages come out more accurate. If a state's pages can't be matched safely, Truss will flag just that state for review instead of risking it going to the wrong shareholder.
More Accurate Lacerte Payment Tasks
Fixed an issue where Assembly could sometimes mishandle Lacerte payment details, including missing valid client letters, mislabeling scheduled payments as needing to be mailed, misclassifying regular payments as estimated, or showing the wrong quarter for fiscal-year estimated payments. Payment tasks should now more accurately reflect the needed action and correctly match the voucher or installment number from the source document.
π€ Max AI
Missing Entity Context Chip in Max AI
Fixed an issue where opening Max AI from an Entity page didn't show which entity it was working with, even though it was using the right context behind the scenes. The entity name now displays correctly.
Max AI Output Truncation and Suspended Environments
Fixed an issue where Max AI could lose important results when working with larger files due to a low output limit. Doubled the limit, and Max AI now handles large files and temporary processing hiccups more reliably.
π³ Stripe
ACH Payments Missing from Reconciliation Reports
Fixed an issue where ACH payments could be missing from reconciliation reports, and pending payments sometimes showed an availability date before they were finalized. Both card and ACH payments now appear correctly, with accurate availability dates.
π Workpapers
Document Viewer Stamp Tool
Fixed an issue where the document viewer's built-in stamp tool could appear and be opened by mistake, which didn't follow Truss's normal stamping process and could cause confusion. Users should now only see and use Truss's own Tickmarks tool for stamping documents.
